Get a Crown in Just Two Appointments Schedule a Consultation With Dr. Wyse or Dr. Chrisman
If you have a painful or damaged tooth, you may require a dental crown. Getting a crown typically takes two appointments at our dental office in Bloomington:
We’ll prepare your natural tooth and place a comfortable, aesthetically pleasing temporary crown. Your impressions will be sent off to our trusted dental lab for crown fabrication.
About three weeks later, we’ll remove the temporary crown and place your permanent crown, ensuring it fits properly.
Drs. Chrisman and Wyse can provide the expert dental care you need to restore the aesthetics and function of your smile.

Address Tooth Loss With Implants We Can Coordinate Each Step of Your Care
Our dentists will do everything they can to save your natural tooth and protect it with a crown, but extraction may be necessary if your tooth has suffered significant decay or damage. Missing teeth causes bone loss in the jaw and puts you at risk for developing other health issues. That’s where dental implants come to the rescue.
An implant-supported crown:
- Preserves your jawbone and surrounding teeth
- Lets you eat and speak with ease
- Blends seamlessly into your smile

The Dental Crown Timeline
Here’s what getting a dental crown at our practice serving Bloomington, Champaign, and beyond looks like:
Frequently Asked Questions About Dental Crowns
Should I get a crown or a veneer?
If you are interested in a crown for purely cosmetic reasons, a porcelain veneer may be a more conservative option that can work just as well. While crowns completely encapsulate teeth, veneers attach to the visible surfaces of teeth. Veneers can obscure aesthetic imperfections to totally transform your smile.
What if my dental crown breaks?
If your crown breaks — even if it’s a crown we didn’t place — keep it safe and get in touch with us to set up an emergency appointment. We may be able to repair it.
Do dental crowns need any special aftercare?
To maintain your new dental crown, it is important to practice good oral hygiene. Patients should brush at least twice daily and floss once a day. In addition, you should attend regular exams and cleanings at our office so our doctors can monitor the health of your restored tooth.
Individuals who suffer from bruxism (teeth grinding) should invest in a nightguard to protect their teeth from breakage, erosion, and other forms of damage.
How long does a dental crown last?
With proper care, a porcelain dental crown can last for 10 to 15 years on average. Dental implants can last a lifetime.
